Meet Scout: A Voice Assistant That Knows Where You Are, What Time It Is, and the Right Places to Go

Scout is here. Built on Google’s latest Gemini 2.5 Native Audio stack and powered by the new Gemini 3 Pro, Scout is a real-time voice assistant that understands your context—where you are, what time it is, and what you’re trying to get done. Whether you’re exploring a new neighborhood, planning your day, or just looking for a great place to eat, Scout is designed to help you move through the world with confidence, clarity, and a little bit of delight.

🌍 Grounded in Google Maps and Search for Real-World Awareness

Scout’s biggest leap forward is its deep integration with Google Maps and Google Search, transforming it from a conversational assistant into a truly grounded, real-world guide.

  • Live GPS coordinates now flow directly into each session, allowing Scout to understand what “nearby” actually means.
  • Instead of generic venue lists, Scout receives official Google Places data—including names, IDs, map URLs, and photo references.
  • When Scout says “there’s a cinema 400 meters away,” you’ll see the real place, with a dynamic card that includes a photo, distance, and a “Directions” button that opens Google Maps.
  • On the knowledge side, Scout uses Google Search Grounding to answer time-sensitive questions with fresh, cited results. Whether you’re asking for opening hours, product prices, or who runs a business, Scout constructs focused queries and synthesizes accurate answers—no guesswork, no hallucinations.

📬 Communication and Time Awareness That Just Works

Scout now supports real-world communication tools. Say:

  • “Send this to my WhatsApp” → Scout drafts a message and shows a Click-to-Send card with a wa.me link.
  • “Email this to myself” → You get a mailto: link, ready to go.

This respects browser security (Scout won’t send messages silently) while compressing the organize → format → share flow into a single voice interaction. Soft interruptions allow you to jump in at any time.

And thanks to a new local time tool, Scout can now answer “What time is it here?” with real data from your device context.

✨ Perks That Make Scout Feel Real

🔊 Louder, Clearer Voice Output

To make Scout’s voice truly usable on real-world devices, we’ve added a dedicated GainNode to its audio pipeline. This boosts output volume by ~4x before reaching your speakers, solving the “too quiet” issue on many phones and laptops—without changing the voice itself.

🫧 An Orb That Feels Alive

Scout’s Orb Visualizer has been completely rebuilt. It’s no longer just decorative—it’s expressive. Scout now tracks a simple mood state and reflects it visually in real time:

  • Neutral → Calm horizontal eyes and a small mouth
  • Listening → Wide teal eyes when you speak
  • Thinking → Face disappears, replaced by bouncing dots in an amber pulse
  • Happy/Speaking → Smiling chevrons and a bouncy pink-purple blob

This turns the orb into a readable emotional channel, giving you instant feedback on what Scout is doing and feeling.

🚀 Try the New Scout
